The Southern Maryland landscape has immense value for its natural, agricultural, and cultural resources, but development pressures threaten the unique landscape. We developed strategies and outreach products for partners to increase the pace of land conservation.

The Southern Maryland Conservation Alliance (SMCA) is a network of over 50 land trusts, environmental groups, and government partners coordinating land conservation and restoration efforts within the five counties in Southern Maryland. SMCA partners have strategically mapped and prioritized target conservation areas that, if protected, will maintain rural working lands, support thriving fish and wildlife populations, and protect open space for recreation and ecotourism.

To build partner capacity for outreach, Green Fin Studio produced a Communication and Marketing Strategy with targeted messaging and outreach strategies for reaching the two key stakeholder groups involved in land conservation decisions – landowners and local government officials. The strategy included a unifying logo and tagline plus recommended outreach materials to connect with the target audiences. SMCA hired Green Fin Studio again to develop a video and three case studies featuring the success stories of three Southern Maryland landowners who conserved their land.
