We are always on the lookout for emerging trends in communications, outreach, and engagement. 2021 continued to throw some curveballs our way and COVID-19 impacts will certainly be felt well into 2022 and beyond. Though the last couple of years have been anything but predictable, here are a few new trends that we expect to see more of in 2022.

Short Videos

With the explosion of TikTok, Instagram Reels, Snapchat, and the debut of YouTube Shorts, 2021 cemented itself as the year of short-form video. Short-form video not only takes less bandwidth to create, but the format aligns well with the shorter and fast-paced attention spans of the current consumer. Time to lean into TikTok!

Hybrid Events

We predicted this for 2021 and it still rings true for 2022. Hybrid events are the future for convening. Virtual meetings have been the main form of gathering during the pandemic, and while some are itching to meet in-person again, others are happy to continue in a virtual world. We expect to see hybrid events take off in 2022 for the cost savings, environmental benefits, and flexibility they provide.

Social Responsibility

Consumers are looking to support companies that are socially responsible and transparent about their mission. Early research from organizations like McKinsey predicted that customers would more heavily support brands that demonstrated their care for all customers, employees, and shared causes. We expect to see more human-centric campaigns as 2022 continues.

Collaborative Efforts

People and organizations are realizing the power of working collaboratively to tackle complex environmental problems. Over the past few years Green Fin Studio has worked with groups such as Lancaster Clean Water Partners, Delmarva Land and Litter Collaborative, and the Upper and Middle James Riparian Consortium to help them develop the tools they need to work together to make real and lasting change. Interest in these types of efforts only seems to be increasing!
